Eagles of Death Metal European Tour Resumes; Bataclan May Reopen Later This Year

STOCKHOLM, Sweden — On Feb. 13, three months after the terrorist attack at the Bataclan in Paris, the Eagles of Death Metal resumed their European tour. The Feb. 13 performance in Stockholm will be followed by a Feb. 16 concert in Paris, but not at the Bataclan. Owners of that venue have vowed to reopen, but not until later this year. Instead, the Eagles of Death Metal will perform at Paris’ Olympia music hall.

The Stockholm gig wasn’t the first time the band had returned to the stage. That happened less than a month after the Nov. 13 Bataclan attack, when the California band joined U2 on stage at the end of their rescheduled show at the AccorHotels Arena near Paris. That Dec. 7 U2 show, part of their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour, was filmed for an HBO special. It had been originally set for Nov. 14.

Free tickets to the Feb. 15 show at the Olympia Music Hall were offered to anyone surviving the original Nov. 13, 2015 performance at the Bataclan, where most — 89 of 130 — of the terror-related deaths occurred on Nov. 13. Some survivors said they’d attend; others note that it’s still “too soon.”

The portion of tickets for the Paris show that were available for purchase sold out within minutes.
