HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — An elaborate set with video screens, cryo effects and a large cast of fire-twirling dancers accompanied the March 9 premiere for Kong: Skull Island in Ho Chi Minh City (a.k.a. Saigon), Vietnam, but the spectacle took an even more dramatic twist after an apparently misplaced torch set the entire set ablaze, with crowd, cast and crew scrambling for safety. No injuries were reported.
Emergency responders were able to eventually get the flames under control. The company in charge of the shopping mall where the outdoor event was taking place, Vietsin Commercial Complex Development, issued a statement indicating that the incident was “due to a mistake from one of the (fire) dancers.”
