OSLO, Norway – The 56th Eurovision Song Contest included three live broadcasts – two semi-finals the finals – with a combined live audience of over 50,000 and an estimated 200 million TV and internet viewers. The production got wireless support from Wireless Solution Sweden AB. Lighting designer Al Gurdon used W-DMX for a special keylight ring built into the Technocrane and cameras in the green room. The Technocrane ring light was operated by Gurdon, and Sveinung Solbrekke, LD for the green room, operated the camera ring lights there.
"There's a very good reason that W-DMX is used for Eurovision – it works," said Ola Melzig, Eurovision production manager of design. "We just won't take a chance with any brand."
The show was televised by host broadcaster NRK and held at Telenor Arena located just outside the capital of Oslo. This year hosted 39 countries and three interval acts.
Jon Ola Sand, executive producer, worked with Hasse Lindmo, TV producer. PRG of U.K. and Germany provided all technical equipment and crew for the show, with support from Norwegian supplier Frontlite.
"We have always been very proud to be part of the Eurovision Song Contest," said Niclas Arvidsson, CEO of Wireless Solution. "It's regarded as one of the most technically advanced productions around today."
Lena Meyer-Landrut of Germany was voted winner with her song, "Satellite," and as a result, the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest will be staged in Germany.
