JOHANNESBURG — Gearhouse Splitbeam recently acquired Robert Juliat 2500W Aramis followspots for its rental inventory, and the new gear has already been used for a production of Jesus Christ Superstar, pictured here. The rental company also acquired a number of Wybron Coloram IT 7.5-inch color changers.

Pieter Toerien’s version of the musical appeared at Cape Town’s Artscape Opera House before moving to Montecasino’s Teatro theatre in Johannesburg. LD Denis Hutchinson, who had worked with Splitbeam previously on Dream Girls and Handful of Keys, used a rig dominated by Vari*Lite VL3500s and VL2500s

The Gearhouse Splitbeam crew gave high marks to the versatility of the 2500W Aramis’ zoom optics. Operations manager Nasim Bismilla also credited the instrument for “remarkably high light output for such a compact unit.

“They are easy to use, so operators love working with them,” Bismilla added. “Their narrow beam angle makes them perfect for long distance work, and they have enough ‘oomph’ to deliver a dramatic effect despite a high ambient light level.”

The company’s new Wybron Coloram IT 7.5-inch color changers came with a host of improved features. Gearhouse Splitbeam credited the new gear for versatility, near-silence and saving time on load-ins and last-minute changes through their ability to be remotely addressed.

The 7.5-inch Coloram IT units are designed to fit the following light fixtures: ETC Source 4 Par, Par 56 and 64s, Fresnels and HMIs up to 1.2kW. Gearhouse Splitbeam also has 4-inch adaptor plates to enable the units to fit all standard Source 4 profiles and Strand SLs.
