TASHKENT, Uzbekistan — Gerriets provided all draperies and projection screens, the main curtain and a large custom Fence scissor track system for a new convention center here — working with only five weeks from order to delivery. The company credited cooperation with SBS Buehnentechnik GmbH, Heikhaus AG and Planungsbuero Theapro for helping meet the time constraints.
The order involved more than 12,000 square yards of grey and black Clivia 600 stage velvet. For the main hall, Gerriets provided an Opera white projection screen measuring 85 feet by 44 feet. Gerriets also delivered 765 square yards of its Vario Dance and Design flooring.
For the main stage, Gerriets manufactured a custom 121-foot Fence Scissor track system, one of the largest in the world, which incorporates a double “scissor” design. The track system moves the two-piece main curtain (each piece is 62 feet by 47 feet) in the main hall.
The system is designed to allow the curtain folds to open and close simultaneously, with rubber-coated ball bearing wheels to minimize operating noise, even with a curtain load weight of more than one ton.
Gerriets installed all systems, seaming more than 656 feet of the curtain on site. Along with the tight time frame between order and delivery, another challenge was that, due to the tight schedule, some 4,500 people needed to work simultaneously on the premises.
