Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition Logs 71,000 Visitors

GUANGZHOU, China – The 15th Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, held at the China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex, Guangzhou, logged 71,801 visitors in 2010, an increase of 36 per cent from last year. "Our visitor numbers reflected improved economic conditions and the continuing boom in China's construction industry," said Jason Cao, general manager of Messe Frankfurt in China. "There were 15,796 visitors from 116 countries and regions, an increase of 40 per cent from last year. 

 

"The top 10 overseas visitor countries and regions were Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, India, US, Russia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia," Cao continued. "Our domestic visitors also increased by 35 per cent compared to last year, numbering 56,005."

 

There were more than 2,000 exhibitors for the two shows, and the exhibition space covered 13 halls which represented 135,000 square meters. First time exhibitors to the show came from Canada, India, Mexico and Russia and there were new group pavilions from Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and the US.

 

The four-day show, which is the second biggest lighting forum in the world, ran from 9 – 12 June 2010 and was opened by Lutz Sikorski, deputy mayor and head of the transportation department for Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

 

"It's the one place in the world where visitors and exhibitors can gain a comprehensive overview of what's happening in both the Asian and global lighting industries," said Sikorski. 

 

The city of Frankfurt am Main is a major shareholder in the Messe Frankfurt group of companies.

 

Representing the Guangzhou government were Chen Yong, deputy director-general, Economic and Trade Commission. 

 

Along with the Brand Name Halls showcasing global companies such as Osram (Germany), Philips (the Netherlands), Everlight (Taiwan), GE Lighting (U.S.) and Toshiba (Japan), buyers crowded the LED halls to view industry leaders such as Cree Inc (U.S.), Nichia (Japan), Oasistek (Taiwan), Rohm (Japan) and Seoul Semiconductor (Korea).

 

This year's show saw the first time appearance of pavilions from Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and the U.S.

 

Show visitors included visitor delegations from Chinese government departments and institutions and international delegations from industry associations including the China Directory Center from Iran, LED industry representatives from the Electrical and Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM) and the Hong Kong Electrical Contractors Association.

Another new attraction was the Lighting Design Gallery, where lighting design professionals shared their ideas and experiences.  It was coordinated by the Chinese Lighting Designer Association (CLDA), the LUCI Association (Lighting Urban Community International), the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and the Professional Lighting Designers' Association (PLDA).

 

The Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition is part of Messe Frankfurt's architecture and technology shows, headed by the biennial Light+Building event in Frankfurt, Germany. The Guangzhou show, which runs concurrently with Electrical Building Technology Guangzhou, is organized by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt. 

 

The next show will be held June 9-12, 2011.
