MOSCOW – Light Logic supplied 36 Robe Robin LEDWash 600 and 40 ColorWash 1200E AT fixtures for the Orthodox Christmas Ceremonial Service held at the Cathedral of Christ The Saviour in Moscow on Jan. 7. Light Logic's Dmitry Velikanov designed the lighting. People waited in line all day for the chance to join the service, which was attended by President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, and broadcast live by leading TV station Channel One Russia to approximately 140 million people nationwide.
Russian distributor Sofitlight provided Light Logic with an inventory of 50 of the new LEDWash 600s shortly before the event.
The Robes were positioned all around the second level galleries of the Cathedral, the most prominent in central Russia, which was rebuilt from the ground up in the 1990s after the original was destroyed in 1931. The lights were positioned about 8 meters high.
The fixtures lit the service and those attending, illuminating intricate gold pattern work and other architectural features while enhancing light levels for the cameras.
The LEDWash 600s' ability to produce a range of whites from 2700K to 8000K made them well-suited for the event. Velikanov also credited the fixtures' compact size, which helped the units be concealed while lighting the Cathedral. He used a WholeHog 3 console to operate the rig.
The Christmas Ceremonial Service was conducted by The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russian Kirill, Head of the Orthodox Church. The Channel One Russia host was Aleksey Svetozarsky, professor of Moscow Spiritual Academy.
