HANOI, Vietnam – Vietnam celebrated 1,000 years with a 10-day party that culminated in a ceremony at Mỹ ÄÂình Stadium in Hanoi on October 10th. The event illustrated the history of the country with over 1,000 performers and large-scale lighting visuals that included 120 Martin Professional MAC 2000 Wash XB fixtures and 30 Martin MAC III Profiles. Showtec Group provided the design and build solution for the event and appointed Mac Chan of Stage Centre Line Associates to create the lighting design. He chose the MAC 2000 Wash XBs, Martin's 1500W wash light, a fixture he used on Singapore National Day Parade events in 2009 and 2010.
"With such a project, where I need to cover a huge area and deal with long throw distances," Mac said. "The MAC 2000 Wash XB gives me the flexibility to program multiple focus positions, has excellent coloring, and has minimum optical loss. I find the output is exceptionally bright with the micro-Fresnel lens."
For the 1,000 Year Celebration project, Mac had limited rigging positions and needed a fitting that had the flexibility and performance to deliver the design with a minimum quantity of fixtures.
"I find that when I use a conventional 1.2kW or 1.5kW profile unit, I lose output due to the optics, especially for long throws when I de-focus and make the key light softer," Mac said. "The XB with the micro-Fresnel lens addresses that issue." Mac also thanked Dung Martin from Ho Chi Ming City for his contribution to the lighting design.
