ROME — In preparation for the supporting role they will play in the production of Ben Hur Live, which premiered at London’s O2 Arena in 2009 and is set to open in Rome on Sept. 29, 2011, Media Resource Group (MRG) recently added 52 items of Barco/High End Systems gear including intellaspot automated luminaires, Road Hog Full Boar consoles, Road Hog wings and DMX Processor 8000s. (The live spectacle, which includes chariot races, has also been staged in Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart and Zurich).

Austrian based HES distributor Preworks delivered the fixtures and consoles directly to the Ben Hur Live venue, Nuova Fiera di Roma.  The intellaspot was chosen for its intensity, color mixing system and projection quality; the 850W fixture’s output was compared to that for 1500W fixtures.

Andreas Kisters and Manfred Nikitser reprogrammed the original show on the Road Hog Full Boar in the WYSIWYG Studio at Preworks. They credited the Wholehog system for speed and efficiency. “We are using for the first time the new Wholehog software version 3.2.1 and had the ability to reduce the total cue count by almost 100 cues simply by using the mark function of Wholehog OS,” Kisters said. “We are also very happy with the full tracking backup solution which gives us the total safety for the show.”

“I am very happy to work together with Media Resource Group on this big project,” added Andreas Reinbacher, Preworks general manager. “In Rome, our support technician Michael Mayler will assist the console operators with the reprogramming from the original desk. Furthermore, Paul Hancock from High End Systems is onsite to support any technical questions about the intellaspot and/or Wholehog OS.”
