VADODARA, India — Two elevated platforms with spectators viewing garba dance rituals during the nine-day Hindu observance of Navaratri collapsed on Oct. 18 and 20, injuring several of the spectators.
On Oct. 18, a portion of an elevated platform erected at the Credai Arkee Garba at Vaccine Grounds here gave way, leaving several with minor injuries; in that case, no one was charged with wrongdoing.
On the evening of Oct. 20, as many as 10 people were injured in a separate platform collapse here, including at least one spectator who suffered a bone fracture.
The second collapse was blamed in part on overcrowding, and organizers responsible for crowd control, along with the platform contractor, were charged with negligence.
