NICE, France — Rihanna’s tour stop slated for the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice, France on July 15 was canceled after the deliberate attack by a gunman who also used the truck he was driving as a weapon, killing scores of pedestrians at a beachside fireworks show the night before. At least 84 people were killed in the July 14 attack before the gunman/truck driver, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31, was shot dead by police. A local jazz festival set to open July 16 also canceled.
Rihanna had been scheduled to perform, along with Big Sean and Norway-based DJ Alan Walker, at the July 15 event as part of her Anti World Tour. Rihanna was in Nice on the night of the attack but is reported to be safe; her next tour stop is for a show at the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt, Germany on July 17.
France’s president, Francois Hollande, declared a national three-day period of mourning after the attack. The Bastille Day attack was the third major terror attack to hit France in two years. Other mass killings included the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris on Jan. 7, 2015 (12 dead) and the Paris attacks on Nov. 13, 2015 at the Bataclan and Stade de France, where a total 130 were killed (89 at the Bataclan).
