MELBOURNE, Australia — Clifton Projections used Robe moving lights for many of the 340 cars on display at the 2009 Melbourne International Motor Show, including models from Toyota, Holden, Mazda, Lotus, Honda and Nissan.

Clifton’s crew set up different combinations of Robe ColorSpot 1200 ATs, ColorWash 2500E ATs and ColorSpot and Wash 700E AT Series fixtures at the event. The lighting supplier has more than 500 Robe fixtures in its inventory to support events in Australia.

At the Melbourne event, each stand had a unique design and layout, with different LDs adding their own touch. The looks ranged from large washing effects for Lexus to a modern LED screen presentation and gobos created for Kia.

“Lighting effects play a huge part in having impact and making booths stand out,” noted Clifton’s systems tech, Aaron Humber. The Robe fixtures, he added, were used primarily to color-wash the cars. “The reliability and brightness makes them ideal for applications like this.”

The Mazda stand used Robe ColorWash 2500E ATs for their ability to punch through the prominent working lights illuminating the stand to create a vibrant wash of color on the back wall. Kia used Robe ColorSpot 1200 ATs for gobo projections onto the cars. Lotus used both ColorSpot 700E AT and ColorSpot 1200 ATs for a reveal and to create looks that would add excitement.

For Lexus, LD Ziggi Ziegler from ZZ Creative Services used Robe ColorSpot 1200 ATs and ColorWash 2500E ATs for gobo projections during the press launch session, and afterward to wash each of the cars in color and texturing. The ColorWashes were used for high impact gobo effects and CMY color mixing.

Clifton’s system tech John Stanley programmed and operated the Lexus stand with an Avolites Pearl, the Toyota stand with a Hog PC and the rest of Clifton’s stands with LSC Maxium consoles.
