PALERMO, Italy – The lighting and set for Panastudio Productions' La Tana del Lupo (Den of The Wolf) won't be confused with that used for the Eurovision Song Contest anytime soon. The set and lighting effects for the Italian TV talk show, broadcast live three times a week by CTS (the Sicilian Television Company), is kept to a minimum to keep the focus on guests facing each other on curved sofas.
But if the lighting rig is small – DoP Massimo Tomasino specified six Robe Robin 300E Beams and two Robe DigitalSpot 3000DTs – he also calls the fixtures "perfect" for the show, crediting them for their brightness, small size, quiet operation and reliability.
The DigitalSpots are rigged on a truss in the corner of the room, primarily used for video and color projections onto a series of white set panels behind the sofas. Tomasino uses a Jands Vista S1 console for control.
Tomasino's main requirement is for classic, balanced TV lighting, but he also sometimes uses moving gobo projections during the regular one-minute live music links, projecting them over the musicians as they switch between the topics under discussion.
Panastudio Productions purchased the Robe gear from Cattolica-based Italian distributor Robe Multimedia.
