MINSK, Belarus – Russian rock legends Bi-2 recently returned to their native Minsk, in Belarus, for a one-off sold-out show for 6,000 fans at the Sports Palace indoor arena.

FE-Belimlight provided a large number of PR Lighting automated heads for the band’s LD, Dmitriy Movlev, as well as technical support.

Movlev selected 24 PR lighting XL 1500 spots and 16 XL 1500 wash lights as the mainstays of the rock rig. “It was a true rock and roll show with a mixture of fast, dynamic songs, interspersed with slow and lyrical ballads,” said FE-Belimlight’s Ilya Piatrouski, who supported the production. “The flexibility of the lighting rig needed to reflect this.”

The XL1500s were distributed across the front-, mid- and back-trusses as well as on the stage, which Movlev controlled from a Wholehog 3 desk.

Movlov praised the quality of the gobos, inter-mixing the twin wheels simultaneously to generate different combinations of projection effects.

In addition to the fixed and rotating gobo wheels, the PR Lighting XL 1500s offer a full featureset from a 1500W discharge lamp, optimized via its optical system. This includes CYM color mixing (plus six dichroic color filters and linear CTO), motorized zoom, with additional wide 40° angle and double strobe/shutter blades with variable flash.

Formed in 1985 by then teenagers Aleksandr ‘Shura’ Uman and Yegor ‘Lyova’ Bortnik, Bi-2 has many chart hits under their belts (plus a 2007 MTV Russian Music Award for Best Rock Act). More than 25 years later their music remains as fresh as ever, as their performance in Minsk demonstrated.
