SHANGHAI – The Shanghai International Lighting Fair debuts this fall from 3 – 5 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. Organised by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co Ltd, the event is expected to host over 100 exhibitors. China’s central and eastern region is quickly becoming one of the fastest areas for the development of state-of-the-art properties and infrastructure projects as government planning focuses on reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

SHANGHAI – Messe Frankfurt announces a new addition to its portfolio of technical events this year, as the first edition of the Shanghai International Lighting Fair takes place this fall from 3 – 5 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. Organized by Guangzhou Guangya Messe Frankfurt Co Ltd, the event is expecting to host over 100 exhibitors, showcasing lighting products and solutions geared towards Central and East China’s emerging project-based business sector. In line with creating greater synergy between all professionals involved in property and infrastructure development, the 2014 fair will be held concurrently with Messe Frankfurt’s ISH Shanghai & CIHE, Shanghai Intelligent Building Technology and Building Solar China – Conference and Exhibition. Collectively, the four events will occupy approximately 40,000 sqm in exhibition space.
Ms Lucia Wong, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Ltd commented: “The Shanghai International Lighting Fair was primarily designed to facilitate the growth of Central and East China’s project-based business community. Utilising our experience as the organiser of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, we aim to bring together influential lighting design and technology companies, looking to tap into the local region’s rapidly developing commercial and residential building sector.”

China’s central and eastern region is quickly becoming one of the fastest areas for the development of state-of-the-art properties and infrastructure projects. Due to the Central Government’s various goals set out in the 12th Five-Year Plan, efforts are being made to reduce energy consumption as well as greenhouse gas emissions in the countries primary commercial region. For example, based on the current Five-Year Plan, by 2015 all new construction projects are to reach no less than 65% in energy efficiency. This policy has driven increasing demand for items such as intelligent lighting systems and LED-based lighting solutions.
The Greater Municipality of Shanghai is leading the region’s growth in project-based business. Under the city’s own Five-Year Plan, between 2013 and 2020, 64 commercial centres, ranging from Grade-A commercial office towers to mix-used properties are to be established within the city, with 14 of those centres to respectively contain over 500,000 sqm of usable space. Each of the remaining 50 is estimated cover 300,000 sqm.
Demand for sustainable and energy-efficient lighting solutions is also increasing in the pre-existing property renovation sector. Hotels, public infrastructures, medical facilities, commercial and residential buildings and many other types of properties have planned projects to retrofit their structures with the latest lighting solutions. Ms. Wong added: “The amount of opportunities in Central and East China’s project-based business sector is almost limitless. China’s project-based business market offers an exciting chance to work on the development of one of the world’s most promising lighting markets. By establishing this fair, our goal is to provide a locally-focused platform, where lighting manufacturers are able to directly connect and build relationships with project decision makers across the region.”
The Shanghai International Lighting Fair is the sister event to the Guangzhou International Lighting Fair, the influential and comprehensive lighting and LED event in Asia.
