SINGAPORE – Robert Juliat provided the big guns for two big occasions when its largest followspots – Lancelot 4000W HTI and Cyrano 2500W HMI followspots. – were specified for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games. Lighting designer Koert Vermeulen, principal designer at ACT Lighting Design, cited past performance and photometrics data for his decision to use the fixtures.
In all, eight Lancelots and six Cyranos were supplied by Production Resource Group (PRG), with Showtec Communications Pte Ltd of Singapore coming up with an additional Cyrano provided at short notice.
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies took place at TheFloat@MarinaBay near the Marina Bay Sands hotel. Measuring 120 by 83 meters, TheFloat stage is the world's largest floating platform. Together with the 220 by 30 meter main stage, it formed the arena where 7,000 youths performed for a live audience of 27,000.
Created by Singaporeans and aimed at the young audience, the shows celebrated the aspirations of a young nation and the determination of the young athletes gathered for the Games. Vermeulen worked with an experienced international technical team to bring the show to life.
Laurent de la Haye, PRG's senior on site manager and project manager, also credited the fixtures for reliability and performance, calling the Lancelot "the best followspot I have ever worked with. Also, I am extremely happy with the after-sales support we received from Robert Juliat, even on the other side of the globe."
