SINGAPORE – Craig Burridge, technical director for St James Holdings, parent company of Bellini Grande Pte. Ltd., specified eight Robe DigitalSpots and a moving light rig for the main room of the Bellini Grande jazz entertainment and dance club. The gear was sourced through Robe South East Asia.
Part of an expanding group of nightspots created by Dennis Foo, The Bellini Grande follows in the footsteps of the St James Power Station, which opened in 2007. Burridge also spec'd the lighting rig for that venue, which included over 200 Robe moving lights and LED fixtures.
The eight Robe DigitalSpot 3000DTs are used for the Bellini Grande's main stage, as are eight ColorSpot 700E ATs, eight ColorWash 750AT Tungstens and six Robe Scan 575XTs. The level 2 lounge, meanwhile, features six recessed ColorSpot 170 ATs in the ceiling.
The venue offers three bars and a dining room with a total capacity of close to 1,400. The decor includes black and white checkered tiles and semi-circular booths.
Burridge served as AV systems and lighting designer for the Bellini Grande project. He chose the ColorSpot 700E ATs for their wide zoom, which is well-suited to the low (3.1 meter) rigging height of the main venue. The warm tones of the ColorWash 750 AT Tungstens are also proving to be a good match for the theatrical nature of many of the venue's live shows.
The DigitalSpot 3000DTs are used as an eight-element edge-blended projection system for the screen backdrop. With the low ceiling and a relatively shallow stage, Burridge needed a short throw projection system that would add depth and dimension to the space. He called the DT3000s are "perfect" for that job, also crediting the intensity and effects of the LED modules in the fixtures.
The reliability of Robe-branded products also factored into his choice of gear, according to Burridge.
The fixtures are controlled via a grandMA Light console, with the DigitalSpots running via ArtNet, and the rest of the units via DMX from the two MA NSPs. A Hog3 PC is running the six ColorSpot 170 ATs in the lounge.
