PHUKET CITY, Thailand — A stage structure set up for performances accompanying the Phuket Prison Fair at the Saphan Hin public park here killed one person and injured another after collapsing in high winds at about 7:40 pm on June 17. Winds from the same storm were also fierce enough to rip the roofs off more than a dozen homes in the Phang Nga area, according to a report posted by Phuketwan, a local news source.

The Phuket Prison Fair is an annual multi-day event featuring the sale of furniture and artwork crafted by inmates as part of a vocational training program. Proceeds help give ex-convicts a financial foothold upon their release.

Details related to the collapse were sketchy at the time of this posting. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
