Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

RIO de JANEIRO, Brazil – Rio’s iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, perched dramatically atop the seaside city’s 2,300-foot-high Corcovado Mountain, was clad in health worker’s garb as part of an inspirational large-format projection for an Easter Sunday service on April 12.

The case count and death toll from Covid-19 in Brazil have passed in Brazil, the number of confirmed cases has risen to more than 22,000, with more than 1,200 deaths, since the first case was confirmed in the country in late February. Along with the projections of hospital workers’ uniforms, the tribute to those battling the disease included photos of workers themselves and also flags of the countries hardest hit from the pandemic, an echo of similar projected messages of unity and hope made on the statue in March.
