SINGAPORE – Located 71 floors up on top of the luxury Swissotel The Stamford, the New Asia Bar has a chic atmosphere enhanced with Robe ClubScan 250 CTs, ColorSpot 250 ATs and ColorWash 575 ATs. Steve Rawlings of Intelligent Lighting Design specified the moving lights during a two-month renovation of the club two years ago, and Louis Teo from Lighting & Sound Distribution (LSD), Robe's Singaporean distributor, supplied them.

New Asia's manager Steve Ignatiadis was also involved in formulating a brief for what he wanted to achieve and see in the lighting. "I wanted a rig that gave all the flexibility and options and something that was as reliable as possible," he said, crediting the gear and crew involved with the project.

Lighting & Sound Distribution undertook the original installation a recent refit, which required that the entire rig be stripped out and re-hung so that the position of the dance floor could be changed to maximize the views and also the acoustics of a new sound system.

It added up to a hard working installation, said Teo, but he added that "I knew these were absolutely the right fixtures for the job and that they would be up to the club's tough working schedule of seven day a week, up to 12 hours a day."

The new interior layout incorporates a mezzanine level running along two sides and back walls of the L shaped venue, with a circular main bar near the entrance, a second bar beneath the mezzanine at the other end, and the dance floor stretching the long length of the room between the two bars.

The exterior walls are floor-to-ceiling glass allowing guests to gaze all the way from downtown on one side by the main bar to Singapore harbour the other side around the corner in the lounge area, the other side of the L.

LSD also supplied Anolis ArcLink LED fittings to internally-lit tables in the VIP area during the re-fit. The venue also lights the back walls on both levels with Anolis ArcLine 36 RGB fixtures.

The architectural lighting is controlled via the Light Jockey controller system in the DJ booth, which also controls all elements of the dance floor rig. Future plans call for a new DJ console with Anolis ArcLink trimmings, also provided by LSD.
