LONDON – The third annual Knight of Illumination Awards will be held Sept. 12, 2010, the first day of PLASA 2010. Organized by STLD, ALD and Clay Paky, the awards ceremony honors U.K.-based lighting designers. Applications for the awards are now being accepted. The application deadline is May 31, 2010. The 2010 awards program will be conducted with some revised criteria and rules. While the competition is open to all U.K.-based LDs and theatrical productions, a U.K.-based theatrical production designed by a non-U.K.-based LD may still be eligible, as long as the production is staged in the U.K. between September 2009 and May 2010.

Also, applications for awards can be made by U.K.-based LDs and U.K.-based rental companies only. For the Television categories, however, anyone can submit an entry for a program to be honored; they do not have to have worked on the show's production for their submissions to be considered.

The award finalists and winners will be chosen by a panel of professional reviewers working in the specific categories, selected and coordinated by the STLD and the ALD.

The categories include:

    * Rock (Stage Events, Arena Events, Eco-friendly Tour)

    * Television (Light Entertainment, Drama, Small Studio, Events)

    * Theatre (Musicals, Dance, Opera, Drama)

The Web site for the Knight of Illumination awards will allow designers and their sponsors to place their entries on a secure Web page, which can be updated by the nominees and reviewed by the judges but not accessed by other nominees.

The committee will then forward to the applicant's login details for a secure Content Manager Web site where LDs must place as much of the requested information as possible for consideration by the judges.
