White Light has established a strong reputation of working on ambitious events held at prestigious locations. An approved supplier for the Unique Venues of London, this year has already seen the complete production solution specialist assist on occasions at the British Museum, the Royal Courts of Justice, Westminster College Gardens and the National Gallery, as well as being appointed as Production Service Partner at Central Hall Westminster. Last month, the company provided the production support on yet another prestigious event: the ‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of An Icon’ evening held at the National Portrait Gallery in Central London.
Taking place on 21st July, the evening allowed invited guests an exclusive viewing of the hugely popular summer exhibition ‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of An Icon’. With support from the Audrey Hepburn Estate, this fascinating series of photos illustrates the life of actress and fashion icon Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993). Documenting her early years as a chorus girl in London’s West End through to her philanthropic work in later life, the collection contains more than 70 classic images of Hepburn and is a celebration of one of the world’s most photographed and recognisable stars. Prior to the showing, there was an innovative drinks and canapé menu held by Table Talks; with the evening also allowing the Gallery to both utilise and showcase their unique spaces.
Madolyn Grove, Senior Events Manager at the National Portrait Gallery, comments: “This was a fantastic evening for the Gallery. Not only did it allow us to invite key contacts to privately view ‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon’ but it also allowed us to showcase our fantastic spaces, something that White Light helped us exhibit”. White Light’s Business Development Manager Alicia Earls comments: “It’s a privilege for White Light to work on events such as this. We have collaborated with the National Portrait Gallery previously so are fully aware of their high expectations — expectations that we set for ourselves”.
The company oversaw the production set-up in three areas of the National Portrait Gallery. White Light’s Project Manager Emily Woolnough comments: “In each area, the Gallery wanted us to fulfil a specific brief which related to Audrey Hepburn. For the entrance, they wanted a glitz and glamour feel, which involved lighting this entire space. In the Ondaatje Wing, the theme was Roman Holiday, based on the iconic film. In the Lerner Galleries, the theme was soft, feminine lighting, with the space eventually leading to the actual exhibition”. Further cementing its reputation as the complete production solution specialist, White Light was asked to supply more than just the lighting for the evening. Madolyn states: “We also asked White Light to build a small stage, a customised bar cover for our Information Desk along with some Glitter Steps for the guests to walk on as they arrived. We had heard about White Light’s impressive work on other similar events so thought we would draw on their numerous skills”. Emily adds: “It appears that, with every large event we work on, we are asked to provide more and more different types of production support. It’s great that large, renowned venues such as the National Portrait Gallery have the confidence in us to fulfil their ambitious briefs — something which we continue to do”.
Overall, the evening was an enormous success, with the National Portrait Gallery successfully displaying both the exhibition and spaces they have available. Madolyn comments: “What’s great about evenings like this is that we are not only able to showcase the Gallery’s unique exhibitions but also show how the spaces we have can be transformed for our clients’ own events. White Light effectively created a different feel in each room which made it a really memorable, immersive evening for all of our guests”. Alicia states: “As a company, we have had a really busy and exciting year, seeing both our services and stock range expand rapidly. The relationship we have with our clients is continuously growing, as we are now in a position to provide them with a whole host of production support. Therefore we can ensure that every event we work on achieves its potential”.
