UK – The Sherlocks are an Indie band from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Consisting of two sets of brothers, they have already made significant waves in the music industry, having performed at both the Leeds and Reading Festivals along with playing the world’s largest music festival, SXSW, in Texas. The band is currently embarking on a UK tour, visiting venues up and down the country.

Having previously provided the lighting equipment for acts including Jessie J, Frankie Valli, Elton John and 50 Cent, White Light was called upon to provide the lighting on this occasion.
The Lighting Designer for the tour is Craig Greenhalgh. He comments: “My role entails working closely with the band to achieve a look that suits their style of music but is also visually impressive. From the start, the band knew they wanted to achieve some really big and bright looks. It’s a very energetic show with equally energetic crowds so we wanted this to be reflected in the design”.
As a result, Craig approached WL to provide him with a suitable lighting rig. He states: “The main feature of the rig is a grid of two cell moles positioned behind the band, along with some Nitro 510C Strobes and Martin MAC Aura XBs on the floor. We also used a MagicQ MQ60 for control”.
He adds: “As the moles use quite a lot of power, I wanted to make the rest of the rig compact so drew on LED where possible. Hence the use of the Auras which are lightweight and compact yet provide a great punch and lovely colors. The Nitros were used as strobes to accent breakdowns and certain moments in songs. That said, they also work as a good block wash light to silhouette the band whilst also having the ability to chase them across the stage”.
Craig visited WL where he used the company’s state-of-the-art bespoke studio facility Studio15 to prep and perfect his lighting design prior to the first performance.
The tour has a total of sixteen dates in a range of venues across the UK. Craig adds: “The biggest challenge on a practical level has been the sheer variety of venues we’ve played in! These have included everywhere from rooms above a club to 1500-seater venues. As a result, every single load-in has been different and we have had to quickly work out which elements we can fit and where! Thankfully, the equipment we have is versatile enough to ensure we always achieve the desired effect – regardless of the venue”.
The tour marks another example of WL supplying the equipment for a concert tour. Craig adds: “WL have been fantastic throughout this entire project. They offered me constant advice, helped source the equipment I needed and continuously checked in with me whilst on the road – something I’m extremely grateful for”.
