Snape Maltings Concert Hall is a world-renowned venue situated in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. Amongst its various performance spaces is the Britten Studio – a 350 seat venue that often plays host to full orchestral rehearsals, small-scale opera performances, piano concerts and literary festivals. Wanting to replace their previous dimmer system, Snape Maltings called upon White Light to provide the latest technology to fulfil their various lighting requirements; with the LSC GenVI Advanced Dimming System offering the perfect solution.
Geoff Spain, Technical Coordinator at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, comments: “We knew for some time that we needed to upgrade our current system as it hadn’t changed since the Britten Studio first opened in 2009. As this was such a significant purchase, we needed to ensure that we made the correct decision hence we wanted to see the entire breadth of the latest technology available to us. Having purchased equipment from WL in the past, we knew they would be able to show us this”.
Jonathan Haynes, WL’s Business Development Manager, met with the team at Snape Maltings Concert Hall to discuss their exact specifications. He states: “After discussing various options, the LSC GenVI became the natural choice. LSC is a product range for which WL is the UK dealer and we have stocked their equipment for almost a decade now so are fully aware of its advanced capabilities”.
The GenVI represents the sixth generation of dimmers designed by LSC over its 35 year history. Jonathan comments: “What’s fantastic about the GenVI is its versatility. Whether it is dimming traditional lamps or powering moving lights, LED fixtures, video screen or audio power, the GenVI can control all types of device. The colour touchscreen gives the user the ability to set each channel individually, control local outputs and view any external fault conditions that may be present”.
The greatest influence behind the purchase was ensuring that the equipment suited the requirements of running The Britten Studio. Geoff comments: “We wanted to be able to set a maximum output on each channel to save lamp life during the long rehearsal periods we have. Also, having an RCD per channel was really important as it would allow us to overcome the issue of a fault on one channel taking out several others. This was a huge factor for us, particular with the variety of shows and loads we have in the venue, yet the GenVI ensured that this would no longer be an issue”.
