FAIRVIEW, NJ – I. Weiss announced that after operating in Long Island City, N.Y. for the past 28 years, the company is moving its operations to a facility with more elbow room – and headroom as well – in Fairview, N.J. Starting out as a small curtain company in New York, I. Weiss expanded from half of a 16,000-square-foot building to occupy the whole space, but still required 3,000 square feet of additional room to contain its operations. The new facility measures 30,000 square feet.
The new site will house the company's sales department, drapery fabrication and rigging shop along with its production and project management staff – all under one high roof.
Despite the extra space, which is expected to help the company expand its custom rigging line, including the Vialift, the company said the new facility will allow for a significant reduction in overhead.
David Rosenberg, president, and Jennifer Tankleff, vice-president, indicated that I. Weiss has been in the planning stages for the move for the past two years, with the need to cut the cost of its production as a key driving factor, with the elimination of the need for the freight elevator and an expansive new column-free space expected to enhance work flow and productivity.
"Everyone is realizing the possibilities and expressing that can't-wait-feeling," said Tankleff.
Rosenberg added that the new building includes "green" benefits including energy efficient lighting and heating and a waste disposal company that promotes recycling.
I. Weiss expects to be up and running in its new location by mid-July.
