Charles Israel Assumes Presidency of IES

NEW YORK – Charles “Chip” Israel assumed the office of President of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) effective July 1, succeeding Denis Lavoie. The newly-elected Board of Directors named are: Cheryl English, LC, Acuity Brands; Allan Long, Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division; Ardra Zinkon, TEC, Inc. Engineering and Design; and Zach Foster, (Emerging Professional), Lighting Group Northwest.

NEW YORK – Charles “Chip” Israel assumed the office of President of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) effective July 1, succeeding Denis Lavoie.

The mission of the IES is to improve the lighted environment by bringing together those with lighting knowledge and by translating that knowledge into actions that benefit the public.

Israel graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree.  He worked initially for Lutron Electronics, followed by work as a lighting designer for Grenald Associates (currently Grenald Waldren).  Since then, he assumed the role of President and Founder of the Lighting Design Alliance.

He has been responsible for the successful completion of more than 3,000 lighting design projects, ranging from large scale projects for Disney to the Venetian Casino and to decade long master plan projects.  He has received many lighting design awards, including IES Illumination Awards such as the Guth and Waterbury Awards and the General Electric Award for Excellence.
