LONDON — Drapes specialist Cover It Up has moved. The new location, in Camberwell, south east London, gives the company expanded warehouse and office space, a reflection, says Rhys Sion, of the relative economy of using soft goods as an alternative to alternate staging elements.
“With the economy in its current state, and the world’s need to be more environmentally conscious, the practical and aesthetic potential of draping in all sorts of applications is really generating interest,” said Sion.
The new location features a sunken loading bay that can be accessed simultaneously by three vans, increasing the turnaround needed on a daily basis.
“Designing our own premises from scratch has really enabled us to make a difference to the operational efficiency of the workflow,” Sion added. “Serious effort went into planning the new layout and maximizing our resources.”
There are now dedicated areas for elements requiring special attention, such as starcloth maintenance and rigging, plus a sealed area for the storage and handling of delicate fabrics like white trevira, velvets and gauzes. A space has also been created for the steaming of trevira before it’s dispatched to site.
A new larger machining room is fitted out with a series of custom cutting tables and has also been designed for the expedient processing of standard and custom orders.
