COQUITLAM, BC, Canada — Parasol Advanced Systems named Brooks Taylor, a two-time Emmy Award-winning systems engineer, as its chief technology officer (CTO) and general counsel. He brings to Parasol Systems considerable experience in engineering, product development and intellectual property law.

In 1981, Taylor was one of the four engineers who are credited with the invention and development of the first commercially successful automated lighting system — the Vari-Lite system. He spent the next 15 years developing control systems for three generations of Vari-Lite products, which led to seven automated light fixtures and four control consoles.

In 1986, Taylor moved into management of Vari-Lite’s international portfolio of patents and trademarks, where he oversaw six patent infringement lawsuits against competitors. He left Vari-Lite in 2001 to become an attorney and has spent the last 10 years representing clients’ interests in patents and other intellectual property.

Taylor joined Parasol as its CTO and general counsel in July 2011.
