Upstage Video Acquires JumboScreen Co.; Opens New LA Facility

LOS ANGELES — Upstage Video, rental providers of mobile and modular LED video screens, has acquired Thousand Oaks, CA-based LED rental house JumboScreen Co. (JSC), which had been owned and operated by the late David Mann, who died last year in an on-the-job accident. Upstage Video will be shifting JSC’s operating base to a new 10,000-square-foot facility in downtown Los Angeles.

Prior to Mann’s death, he and Doug Murray, owner of East Coast-based Upstage Video, had maintained an informal partnership of sorts, fulfilling the needs of each other’s clients “when we needed West Coast support for our big screen clients, or when JSC needed additional screens in the Northeast,” Murray noted.

Along with opportunity to “continue serving the client base that David Mann worked so hard to establish,” Murray said the JSC acquisition is part of a broader plan for expansion at Upstage Video, which also includes more elbow room at its headquarters in Pottstown, PA and a satellite office in Boulder, CO.

The new Los Angeles location, Murray added, is  just 10 blocks from The Staples Center, University of Southern California and LA Live, the sports and entertainment mega-complex. The company’s goal is to offer more efficient and cost-effective LED solutions to the West Coast and Midwestern areas in addition to better serving its existing clients who require LED screens for their national tours.

“Our first order of business is to reach out to the JSC client base and assure them that we will provide the personal dedication and attention to detail that they have come to expect from JSC,” Murray noted.  “In addition, Upstage Video will bring their unique brand of project management, customer dedication and technical expertise to this new clientele.”

Other aspects in the company’s recently-announced 18-month expansion project include the standardization of Upstage Video’s  modular LED equipment across its three locations and the expansion of the company’s operating facilities. The company also noted that the JumboScreen Co. name and website will remain in place until January 1, 2013. At that point the branding and web presence will become part of Upstage Video.
