Cyclone Cases from Whirlwind

Whirlwind is venturing into the case-building business. The Rochester, NY-based company is starting with cases for its own products and plans to expand into a broader array of case designs. Marketed under the Cyclone brand, the cases feature Colson casters, flush mounted MOL latches and Marine grade HDPE panels.

More details from Whirlwind (www.whirlwindusa.com):

Whirlwind, a leading interface manufacturer for the live event, audio installations, and theater industries, manufacturer of everything from cables to concert splitters to electrical distribution systems and beyond, is now offering their tour-worthy road-proof cases, both in standard and custom sizes.

“As we were building our digital/audio networking products, our cables, our power distribution products [etc.], it was breaking our hearts to then place our overbuilt products into subpar cases,” explains Will Young, Marketing Director/Artist Relations. “That was our motivation for creating the Cyclone case series.”

Continued disappointment in what was available to buy from case manufacturers led to the Whirlwind R&D team looking around their own shop and realizing they already had everything they needed to build a case that was “superior in every way. We just realized we could build something that was indestructible.”

The cases feature Colson® casters, flush mounted MOL latches, and most impressively, Marine grade HDPE panels. “It’s incredibly road worthy,” Young continues. “It won’t soak up water and give in to mold and rot like traditional plywood cases.”

First and foremost, Whirlwind is creating cases for their own products, which is keeping them busy, as there is already a great demand with repeat orders. But they will not limit themselves to that.

“Right now, we can build anything, so we are taking custom order requests — we can build whatever you want.” In the not-to-distant future, it’s inevitable that the Whirlwind Cyclone name will be on everything mission critical.

Whirlwind was founded in 1975 by Michael Laiacona, who has built a company that in the words of Young are “the company who connects everything — speaker cables, concert line arrays, consoles, and beyond.” They are consistently spec’d on the largest custom installs including places like the Yankee and Cowboy stadiums and even the White House. “One thing that is consistent across all product lines is that we overbuild, whether it be for installations, theaters, live events, concert touring, or players looking for a good guitar cable,” Young adds. “Everything we do is developed and built right here at our plant, and we’re able to make sure the reliability factor is extraordinarily high.”
