North Phoenix Baptist Church Celebrates 75 Years with New Front Projection Side Screens and Center Projection Demo

PLSN Staff • Projection Connection News • October 18, 2021

The new side screens were put to use on Oct. 17.

PHOENIX, AZ – North Phoenix Baptist Church (NPHX) held its 75th anniversary service Oct. 17, drawing 3,500 to 4,000. Production director Donald T. Woodard noted that an upgraded projection setup proved to be a big success.

The Oct. 17 service also made use of a center-stage projection screen that had been provided as part of a demo.

Before and after photos show the change from smaller rear-projection side screens to larger front-projection Severtson screens. The center screen has also been lowered to stage level, allowing for an unobstructed view of a large stained glass window with a cross.

The new side screens are Severtson Deluxe 6 Piece DF1610367.57 SAT4K front projection screens with a 26′ x 16′ 10” projection surface. They replace the old 4×3 rear mattes with a 16’ x 9’ rear-projected image from a pair of Panasonic PT-D10000U projectors being fed HD-YUV, Woodard notes.

The old setup with rear-projection side screens.

The old center screen, meanwhile, was projected with a Panasonic PT-Rz21k Laser projector. It was moved to a new projection location and matched with another for the new side surfaces. For the new center screen, Panasonic North America demo’ed a PT-ZR34k projector with a ET-D3LEU100 “snorkel” lens. It lit up a demo Severtson 6 Piece DF169350MW (25’5” x 14’ 4” projection surface) to show the church and leadership the look that could be achieved with a better center projector/screen setup.

Along with Woodard and NPHX Senior Pastor Dr. Noe Garcia, the crew members included Jared Darensbourg from Panasonic North America and Aaron White, Toby Severtson and Kirk Severtson from Severtson Screens. Ray Surls and Marcus Homan looked after lighting and projection, respectively.

Also playing key roles: Jake Pajewski and the NPHX production team; Gary Noffsinger and the NPHX facilities team; Dave Warner from NPHX ‘s Broadcast Center; Jonathan Archer and Kendle Smith from F.O.H. Productions; and Julie Lee from Dynamic! Productions.
