Redwood is a new musical co-conceived by Tina Landau and Idina Menzel, hailed by The New York Times as “among the most beautiful and wondrous theatrical creations.” PRG was honored to have played a key role in this visually and sonically immersive production, providing scenic, automation, video, lighting, and audio solutions, including the largest LED display ever seen on Broadway. This video, created by PRG, takes a look at the scenic design with an interview with Redwood’s Scenic Designer, Jason Ardizzone-West. It takes a look at the scenic construction and scenic painting process behind ‘Stella’, the show’s breathtaking 32′ climbable redwood tree.
PRG’s scenic team brought the production to life by constructing Stella, and seamlessly integrating lighting and video to create a living, breathing presence on stage. In collaboration with Scenic Art Studios, PRG crafted intricate textures and lifelike details to enhance Stella’s realism, ensuring actors could climb, rappel and interact with this centerpiece safely and dynamically. With over 1,000 Recience RX2.6 LED panels across thirteen screens, PRG helped create an immersive digital environment that shifts between NYC, a cross-country road trip, and the towering redwoods, blurring the lines between scenic and digital design. Congratulations to the entire creative team on this visionary production.
