Aerialist Dies From Fall in Christmas Show

CINCINNATI — Student performer Keri Shryock, 23, died from injuries related to a fall during a Christmas show at a church Dec. 17. She was suspended from a cable, acting the part of a Wise Man in a contemporary Nativity story at Crossroads Community Church in Oakley, Ohio when her harness opened. She fell more than 20 feet and succumbed to her injuries the next day.

Showgun 2.5 Hybrid Luminaire Released

AUSTIN, TX — Barco announced that the High End Systems Showgun 2.5 automated luminaire, previewed at trade shows this fall, has been released. The instrument offers 30 percent more photonic output than its predecessor via a new 2500-watt Philips MSR lamp source, producing 130,000 lumens of light. High End Systems co-developed the lamp with Philips.

Trying to keep that xmas spirit

    Things have ground down for the year. It seems like for the first time in a while many of my colleagues are looking for work. Heck, I’m even short on gigs. This is usually normal in the music biz around this time of year. But the corporate world has been hit even harder. No big xmas parties anymore. No new year’s extravaganza. LEDS and “Musica” at Latin Grammy Awards

HOUSTON — The 9th Annual Latin Grammy Awards was the first where a female performer, Gloria Estefan, was named Persona del Año. The awards program’s lighting rig also steered away from the status quo with new LED-based fixtures supplied by Zenith Lighting Inc., including Coemar’s Infinity ACL, Infinity Wash XL and ParLite LEDs.
