Alrighty the first week is in the bag and I’m feeling damn good about it. When I left off the last blog I said Denver was the first stop on the tour. Since the van was heading from Columbus, Ohio we got to make a stop at the Harrah’s Casino in St. Louis, Missouri which was a blast. Well we got into Denver early in the evening so I decided to grab a beer across the street from the hotel to unwind, enjoy downtown, and tell people about the show tomorrow night. It turned out Common was playing right down the street at the Fillmore and I got to meet a lot of cool people and of course a drunken girl that stole a telephone book in the middle of the street. So after a few laughs I went right to bed and I woke the next day to meet the crew and band.

FOR-A’s VPS-715 GINGA
FOR-A’s VPS-715 GINGA switcher contains all the features of the VPS-700 in a 1.5 M/E digital switcher. The VPS-715 includes frame synchronizer for every input, up to 16 SD inputs and outputs, six keyers and six channels of 3D DVE. It has a large control panel, consisting of 16 primary input buttons: PST/PGM (Preview/Program) BUS, ME (MIX/EFFECT) BUS, KEY/FILL BUS, AUX BUS and function keys. A newly added feature on the VPS-715 is its VPS-70FR flash recorder option which allows 120 seconds of uncompressed video recording and provides two channels (Key/Fill) with simultaneous playback for video insert, CG wipe or slow motion playback. The switcher’s fader link function allows for manual playback control as well. The VPS-715 is equipped with redundant power supplies for the MU and OU as standard. As an option on the VPS-715, users can add 2D DVE in every input, delivering up to 32 DVE channels and total flexibility for multisource productions. It supports the 525/60 and 625/50 standard definition formats.

The modular LED fixture’s dual side-by-side RGBA cells provide lighting designers with the opportunity for single color or split color. Its lenses are designed so that the wide-angle lens in one cell washes the lower portion of a surface, while the narrow lens projects the beam higher. The Color Split also features an RGBI (magic Amber) control mode. With its built-in power supply, it can be used in standalone mode.

Alison Krauss & Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas
“We first saw the Sea Changer in Las Vegas at the LDI Show last year and were very impressed with its rich colors and minimal loss light out-put. I contacted Tom Morris with Sea Changer to check availability in hopes of using them on the Alison Krauss and Union Station tour. The show doesn’t require a lot of light movement, and it seemed to fill the bill as a reliable color changer.
They were able to deliver 40 units in our time frame, so we fit them into our Source Four lekos and used them on a brief Tony Rice/AKUS tour. Two of our lighting guys, Alex Blagg and Ed Welsh, loved the units and wanted to incorporate them into the current Hundred Miles or More tour. We suggested them to Howell, who put them into his design. They have performed flawlessly. — Cliff Miller

Did you happen to see a snowman asking a group of Democratic presidential candidates about global warming? If you did, then you were watching the CNN/YouTube Democratic Presidential Debate. I had the opportunity to work on the event, but this time I was the lighting programmer, and I was not involved in the video production. But it’s interesting to note how a production changes when there is video in the mix.
