ZLIN, Czech Republic — The Zlín International Film Festival for Children and Youth attracts over 100,000 visitors to see nearly 600 films from more than 50 countries screened over eight days. SYDNEY — “Immersion,” a light sculpture designed by Martin Bevz and Kathryn Clifton, was part of this year’s Vivid Sydney outdoor light festival. Consisting of LED tubes in a semi-circle, the sculpture invited viewers to “play” with them by reflecting their movement through the installation via a live video relay of still and dynamic images. The tubes are pixel-mapped to form what is essentially a very low-res video screen measuring 18 by 2 meters.

BRISTOL, U.K. — GDS named Chris Patton, a 12-year industry veteran, head of U.S. operations. With a background in stage electrics, Patton has held positions including export sales manager, divisional sales manager and business development manager, working within the West End theatre and touring rental markets. In his new position, Patton has been appointed to develop the GDS brand across North and South America. He will work with GDS distributor A.C.T Lighting, based at first in the U.K., then relocating to GDS’ New York office in August 2012.
