AUSTIN, TX – The South by Southwest Music Festival may have been the last of the trifecta that makes up SXSW 2016, but it was just as spectacular as the Film and Interactive portions of the nine day event. Lighting designer Victor Fable entrusted Bandit Lites to provide the lighting package for the McGarrah Jessee Rooftop stage, which featured performances from Phebe Starr, Armstrong Leigh, 2 Chainz, Aubrie Sellers, Flo Rida, LANco and Cypress Hill. Keith Hoagland programmed the lighting and was the board op.

KNOXVILLE, TN – In what has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine as “the most adventurously programmed music festival in America,” The Big Ears Music Festival returned for its fifth year. Created and produced by AC Entertainment, Bandit Lites provided the lighting package for one of Knoxville’s newest event spaces, The Standard. Bandit lighting programmer Wayne Lotoza used Vari-Lite, Source Four and Martin Atomic strobes with a  Road Hog console for control for most of the acts, and for an installation piece entitled Drones, he also used GRNLite Washes, ETC Source Four  LED units, Robe Color Blocks and a mirror ball.

MIAMI — Described as “three-days of fast beats, loud drops, beautiful people, and so many lights” by Billboard, many of those luminaires used on Ultra Music Festival again bore the Elation Professional logo with well over 500 Elation products in action on several stages at Miami’s biggest EDM party of the year. Some 165,000 people jammed into Miami’s Bayfront Park March 24-26 for Ultra’s 18th incarnation.

GREENSBORO, NC — Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band have canceled the show set for Greensboro, NC April 10 in protest of HB2, a.k.a. “the bathroom law,” which prevents municipal and county governments from passing antidiscrimination measures that could serve the interests of those who are gay or transgender. Springsteen posted an explanation outlining the reasons for the cancellation on Facebook.

NEW STANTON, PA — Good Sounds provided Chauvet Professional fixtures to for the new campus for New Stanton United Methodist Church. The system designed by Good Sounds owner Dwight Brown includes six COLORdash Par-Quad 18 par-style fixtures, four Rogue R2 Washes and four COLORado Batten 72 Tours.

PHILADELPHIA – LD Michael Korsch selected Clay Paky Alpha Spot QWO 800 and Alpha Profile 800 ST moving lights as part of the rig for the world premiere of Don Quixote at the Pennsylvania Ballet. The production featured a large, two-story set from San Diego Opera. The production was staged from March 3-13 at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. Main Light Industries supplied the Clay Paky fixtures for Korsch’s lighting design.

LAS VEGAS — For a string of shows in California and Nevada during March, dubbed the “March Madness” tour, String Cheese Incident LD Andy Cass included 15 Strike 4 LED Blinders from Chauvet Professional to add an extra dose of intensity to his dynamic light show.

MIDDLETON, WI — ETC has launched The LearningStage portal. It can be found in the new ‘Online Training’ section of the ETC website. Users may log in with an existing MyETC account, or they may create a new account to sign up for courses. In addition to providing access to the training portal, this account also grants access to user forums, white papers, and other helpful information about ETC products.

NEW YORK — Three existing ESTA standards have been opened for revision. They involve the deflagration of dust, light source color rendition and makeup mirror lighting. Those who might be affected by the changes are invited to join the Technical Standards Program working groups developing the revisions or to comment in future public reviews.
